Civil Services Preliminary 2014 Notification – Clarification on Attempts and Age

UPSC on 31st May 2014 notified the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination to be held on 24th August 2014.

Important Highlights of IAS 2014 Notification:

  • Approximate number of vacancies is 1291
  • Last date to apply online at is 30th June 2014.
  • There is NO change in format or syllabus of the exam
  • Number of attempts and age limit have been increased by 2 across all categories
  • Cut-off date for determining upper age limit is 1st August 2014

For Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates, number of attempts is the same as non-PH candidates from their category EXCEPT for General category PH candidates who will get 9 attempts. Age limit varies across different PH categories.

  1. Hi I am 35 yrs old dob 26 aug 1978 .I am working in army as an officer. am i eligible to write IAS 2014. Please help me. I am ready to leave my job to apply for the exam.OR IS IT POSSIBLE TO LEAVE THE JOB ONCE I CLEAR IAS . PLEASE HELP ME.

    1. You might get age relaxation being a defence personnel. You should not leave it before clearing the exam since otherwise you will not age relaxation as you are past the maximum age limit of 32 years.

      you can apply after 3-4 years. because minimum age for participating in this exam is 21 years.

  2. i am 26. i have an mba from the kerala university, 2011. i have been working for a multi-national soft drink company as a marketing executive. i have been trying to appear for the civil services exam for about three years now — half-heartedly, i must add.

    i know it’s a stupid question. but lemme ask, anyway. what should i do to motivate myself. i want to be in the IAS. also can you suggest me the best subjects i should go for. currently, i have indian history in mind. but, i am not a well read person. i would also like to take the IAS kracker coaching. but, i should be confident that i can make it. what should i do. can you help, pleeeeeeeeeease.     1. You are the best person to motivate yourself. If you aren’t sure why your want to get into the civil service, why bother preparing?

    1. I don’t wish to discourage you but Rau’s is the worst institute only out there to extract your money.

    regarding the age relaxation i have a question. i heard that this age relaxation will be in effect only for 2014 and 2015 exams. is this true? or is it a permanent change?
