This infographic on IAS exam below shows the number of candidates who applied for the civil services exam during the years 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 against the total number vacancies and it also depicts the applicants to vacancies ratio (AVR) in the IAS exam for these 3 years.
As you can see from the above infographic, the applicants to vacancies ratio (AVR) has steadily increased over the years. More than 9 lac candidates applied for Civil Services exam (CSE) in 2015! This huge increase can also be explained on the increase in number of vacancies compared to 10 years before.
In fact number of vacancies has consistently stayed above 850 over the last 7-8 years which is very encouraging for aspirants to apply for CSE.

Women Power to the Fore!
I’ve also listed a fun fact in the infographic: The success rate of women candidates is almost twice that of male candidates in the IAS exam! While 15.5% of all women candidates who appeared for the Mains in CSE 2014 finally cleared the exam, the corresponding figure for male candidates was just 7.4%.
No wonder UPSC is actively encouraging women candidates to apply for the Civil Services exam and you should too. If you like this IAS exam infographic and found it useful, leave your feedback in the comments below.
